Do I need to refinance my undergraduate student loans in order to get graduate student loans?
No, you may continue to explore student loan options in addition to the loans you may have borrowed to complete your undergraduate degree. Refinancing can be a beneficial strategy for managing student loan debt, but only once you’re ready to begin student loan repayment, since there’s no grace period or deferment available for this type of loan. At that point, you might consider consolidating past loans into one payment, which may be a more budget-friendly option.
Can I take out graduate loans for my entire two-year or three-year program at one time?
With ELFI, we require borrowers to resubmit applications for student loans each academic year. This helps to ensure that you don’t under- or overestimate your needs and encourages borrowers to work in alignment with their chosen school’s schedule and requirements.
Does ELFI offer student loans for online-only programs?
Yes! Private graduate loans from ELFI does not base eligibility on what type of classes you’re enrolled in, whether in-person, online, or hybrid. However, we do require a minimum level of enrollment based on your chosen school’s specifications, so if you plan to take only one or two courses at a time we encourage you to refer to your program’s threshold for part-time or full-time enrollment.
Does ELFI offer student loans for specialized programs, like flight school, dental school, etc.?
In most cases, no. ELFI works with a select list of institutions that offer accredited bachelor’s and master’s level degrees. Please refer to our eligibility requirements for more information, and feel free to contact us with further questions.
